A Hook & Eye Studio · Austin, Texas

We Build
Cool Shit.

Couture · Costume · Custom Build · For Film, TV & Stage

For Screen. For Stage. For Real.
Meanwhile, in a small shop off East Cesar Chavez, a needle threads a hem that will travel to London on opening night.

Custom costumes. Alterations. Actual craft.

Hook and Eye Company builds and alters garments for theater, film, commercial commissions, and the person who walked in with a first-wedding hem. We work with our hands. We take pride in what we hand you back.

If your grandmother taught you what a good seam looks like — you are in the right place. If she didn't, that's fine too. We'll show you.

What We Do

One shop. Custom work, every scope.

Whether it's a hem on your favorite pants or a couture wedding gown built from scratch — same shop, same process, same hands. We don't run two different businesses for two different scales of project.

We pattern, build, alter, and restore custom-fit garments.

For one client at a time, in conversation. From wedding gowns to costume builds to alterations on the pieces you already love — every project starts with a consultation and runs through the same shop process. Only the scope changes.

  • Build Custom wedding wear and bridal silhouettes
  • Build Costume commissions and theatrical wardrobes
  • Build Cosplay armor builds and prop fabrication
  • Alter Tailoring, hemming, and restyling on garments you bring in
  • Restore Vintage pieces and family heirlooms back to wearable

The team behind every stitch.

A women-led five-person studio working together on film, television, and theatre commissions.

California

Has opinions about thread tension. They are correct. Will quietly fix your sleeve while you're still apologizing for it.

Emma Craig — team portrait

Emma Craig

Treats fabric like a willing collaborator and deadlines like a strongly-worded suggestion. Pins your hem in three minutes flat. The pin will be straight.

Beading. Draping. Drafting. Panicking about timelines. Equally at home in all four — mostly the first three. The math is always already done.

Lindsey Rae — team portrait

Lindsey Rae

Has the receipts. Costume design MFA out of UT Austin Live Design, then theater shops across the west — The Phoenix Theater Company, Arizona Broadway, the Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Utah Festival of Opera and Musical Theater. Plus dozens of film sets, commercial and feature. Reads the room before she reads the script.

Has personally fed an undisclosed but alarming quantity of thread through machines everyone agrees should be retired. They do not retire. Neither does she.
